Scattering of ashes or submerging a biodegradable urn?
The scattering of ashes at sea must comply with the maritime regulations set forth in the law of January 2, 1986, as well as Article L.2213-23 of the General Code of Local Authorities. To do so, you have two options:
- Scattering ashes on the water’s surface: the urn is opened, and the ashes are scattered more than 300 meters from the shore.
- The submersion of a funeralurn, which must be biodegradable. The urn is placed on the surface of the sea and slowly sinks to the seabed at a depth of at least 3 nautical miles, or approximately 6 km.
